| Few decades ago, a mobile phone could communicate over only a few channels. Then the engineers discovered that if they divide the region or area into various “cells” then more and more people can use the mobile phones. Each cell would have a base station that includes a low power transmitting tower and radio equipment. The low power tower was devised so that its frequencies don’t interfere when a person moves from one cell to another cell. Thus the idea was to use frequencies provided to be reused again and again in various cells. How do mobile phones work? They have a low a low-power transceiver that transmits voice and data to the nearest cell sites, usually 5 to 8 miles (approximately 8 to 13 kilometers) away. |

| When one moves from one cell to another cell, switching takes place, and the tower in the newer cell will help them to continue talking.. |

| This way you can move around the entire city and would not be disconnected.
Every mobile phone has a unique identification code embedded in it. This code is known as MIN or mobile identification number. There is another code known as System Identification Code which is assigned to the particular service channel that you are using. When you are traveling in a region where the SID doesn’t match to the SID on your phone, then the phone is under the state known as roaming. |
